Dahab, Red Sea - April 2006

I have given this section of our trip to Egpt its own post, because it was so different to the rest of the holiday in Egpyt and there are so many gorgeous photos to choose from just from the Red Sea.

My twin brother Ross had learnt to scuba dive (at my suggestion) specifically for this trip. In truth, we actually did more snorkelling than scuba diving here and in many places snorkelling is enough - the famous Blue Hole is a little too advanced for us and the view from the surface is just as spectacular. Brightly coloured corals and wonderful fish make this a real paradise, as the pictures below pay testimony to.

On returning to the UK, we heard of a terrorist attack in Dahab, with suicide bombs going off on the main esplanade, including in a restaurant we had eaten in just a few days before. I found this very upsetting, particularly when I heard that more young Egyptians than tourist were killed. I could not help but think of the young boys running up and down the esplanade selling their wares to tourists who had been maimed and killed in this senseless attack - what a waste!
